FAQ FOR CLASSES
Do I have to wear heels? If so, what do you recommend?
No, you never have to wear heels, although it’s highly recommended. We carry ourselves differently in a heel, but also our physics function differently. Some choreography mechanics may actually be easier in a heel than barefoot or in a sneaker.
That being said, come how is comfortable. You’re always welcome to build up to dancing in a heel!
Heels type I recommend is anything that straps securely around your foot and ankle, like a boot, that will not fall off. It may seem counter intuitive but a stiletto or stem heel is easier to dance in than a chunky heel! But do what you gotta do. My first pair was a $20 pair from Ross and as I got more invested in heels dancing I invested in Burjus which are made for professional dancers.
What do I wear?
Anything that’s comfortable. The point of class is not to be sexy, it’s to find your confidence. And if sexiness is a goal to you, I believe you can achieve that in a bustier and fishnets OR sweatpants and a teeshirt. Wear something you’re comfortable moving in. When in doubt, wear layers so you can adjust to your comfort.
I do request that we keep our sexier ensembles PG-13 so that we are always within community guidelines when/if posting on socials, and also to keep the atmosphere of class welcoming and comfortable for everyone in attendance.
(If going sexier, I’d recommend something you’d feel confident going out dancing in.
No nipples, pasties, or thongs please!)
I’m not a dancer, will I be able to keep up?
My classes are designed to cater to the beginner dancer, while appealing to all. It won’t matter if this is your first class or your 500th. Choreography will be thoroughly explained, beginner technique taught, and move modifications will be offered in case of injury, limited mobility or skill level. Always, always, always feel encouraged to ask questions or request alternative movements for your body.
Choreography per class will range anywhere from 30-50 seconds on average and will be designed to be comprehensive and build your retention skills! No crazy advanced moves, and nothing that will make you leave class crying and defeated. This is a space for you to explore your bod and leave feeling confident.
**All choreography in my classes is considered a vehicle to get you TO the destination which is feeling good about yourself. If you want to make changes to the choreography I encourage that. Put your own style on it, adjust it to be more comfortable for your body’s mechanics. That being said, we do value pushing ourselves and growing, so I do request you try moves at least once if possible so we can see where we are skill wise.*
How do I know if the Community Discount Code is “for me”?
If the only difference between you coming to class and sitting out is the price, please use the discount code. I believe strongly that dance should be accessible to all. We’re in unprecedented times and we need community, movement and the endorphins!
If one week you can pay full price and the next you’re feeling strapped for cash, the community code is there for you. No shame or judgment if it is also the only price you can pay every time you join. We want you here in class, and that is not dependent on how much you are contributing monetarily.
This is an honor code system and I trust my students.
